Feds To Investigate State Workers' Comp Claims

The federal government has opened a probe into the way Illinois handles its workers' compensation claims. The investigation will focus on three state arbitrators and numerous claims stemming from a downstate prison and seven state agencies. The Belleville News-Democrat previously reported that upwards of $10 million was given to 389 employees at Menard Correctional Center in downstate Illinois since 2008.

When you do the math it works out to about $25,500 per person for injuries that most of the time resulted in surgery, not out of line it would seem. Workers comp the way the repubs want it would devastate the families of these workers. Let's make sure it's broke before we fix it.
