Governor Pat Quinn has granted clemency to 50 people that were primarily convicted of non-volent crimes like shoplifting and drug possession. Since taking office in 2009, Quinn has approved 517 clemency petitions.
“This action marks another step in a series of clemency decisions aimed at eliminating a backlog of more than 2,500 cases that built up during the previous administration,” reads a statement from Quinn's office.
