Gov. Pat Quinn is appointing former State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias to the post of chairman of the Illinois Community Colleges Board. The 11-person board is appointed by the governor and works to get state funding for community colleges.

Giannoulias lost a close race against Mark Kirr for U.S. Senator last November.
