Nearly 2,000 property owners in Cook County are owed a share of a $16 million mortgage foreclosure surplus fund. The money comes from foreclosed properties that are sold for more than what the owner owed to the bank.
Cook County has been unsuccessful finding all the property owners in the last two years and is now creating a task force for outreach that includes the offices of the Chicago mayor, Cook County assessor, Record of Deeds and state treasury. For more information, call Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown’s office at (312) 603-5030, or go to services.cookcountyclerkofcourt.org/foreclosure.
