Former U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson has filed to run for the 2nd congressional district, according to a report by the Southtown Star. Halvorson, who was unseated by U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-11) in the last election cycle, would be going up against U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-2). The former congresswoman's Crete home now falls in Jackson's congressional district under the new remap.
“I’ve been asked to run by constituents who feel they are not represented,” she told the newspaper. “I’ve told them I would consider it and I have to keep my options open if I’m going to do that and that means filing my paperwork.”
Halvorson stresses that she has not made a final decision to run, adding "This is a tough one. The new district includes a lot of the areas I represent, so I am very familiar with it."
