The Chicago Transit Authority has announced plans to cut 200 jobs, which is expected to save $22 million each year. Senior-level positions will be amongst those getting cut and the eliminations will also include layoffs from July 2011 and vacant positions. The Sun-Times is reporting that approximately two-thirds of the job eliminations will come from positions that are currently filled.
The transportation agency also announced changes to its employee vacation and sick day benefits, which are expected to save several million dollars as well, according to the CTA.
