Starting today, unemployed residents of the 11th congressional district are set to a hold a rally every day this week outside of the Joliet unemployment office to draw attention to the need for a meeting with U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R) on the jobs crisis.
“There are two things missing in Joliet—jobs and Rep. Kinzinger,” said Monica Morales, an unemployed resident participating in the protests this week and has been active in the ongoing calls for more communication with the legislator. “Hopefully, he’ll show up so we can talk to him about the jobs crisis here.”
Unemployed residents of the 11th congressional district have visited Kinzinger's office throughout the summer and fall to call for a meeting or forum on the lack of good jobs in the area. Last Friday, the group delivered a letter to Kinzinger's office requesting that he hold a public meeting to discuss the issue. The letter also requested that he respond by the end of the day yesterday. Kinzinger did not respond, resulting in the new daily protests.
The protests will run throughout the week at 250 N. Chicago Ave., in Joliet, starting at 10:30 a.m. each day.
