Cook County Commissioner John Fritchey and some Chicago aldermen are teaming up to change the way police handle instances of minor marijuana possession. Fritchey and a small number of Chicago aldermen announced a plan Thursday to have police issue $200 tickets to people found with small amounts of marijuana in their possession. They argue that the tickets can generate revenue while keeping officers on the streets, instead of tied up at police stations processing misdemeanor charges for the offense.
Ald. Danny Solis is expected to introduce an ordinance decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana at next week's city council meeting, according to the Sun-Times.
