The strike at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale has ended and teachers were back in the classroom today. The details of the agreement between the SIUC Faculty Association have yet to be released, but union reps say the deal does maintain tenure at the university and strengthens transparency and accountability in critical ways.

"All these things will protect quality education at SIUC for years to come," said Dave Johnson, spokesman for the Faculty Association. "We've got a few remaining issues to iron out and some things that need to be clarified, but we're confident that we're going to end up with a tentative agreement for our members to vote on."
