Of the 252 postal service processing centers that the United States Postal Service detailed as being on the chopping block, nine are located in Illinois. But some Illinois politicians are crying foul on the plan, according to Crain's Chicago Business. Rep. Don Manzullo (R-16) sent a letter to the postmaster general questioning his plan to close a processing center in the Rockford area and transfer the workload to a facility in Wisconsin, more than 60 miles away. The politician called on Postmaster General Pat Donohoe to provide hard data illustrating that such a cut would make fiscal sense.
Postal workers say the plan to reduce facilities and service could do more harm than good.
"You are telling people you are almost giving up on first-class mail," Sam Anderson, president of the Chicago branch of the American Postal Workers Union Branch, told Crain's. "More people are going to start going to pay their bills electronically or go to someone who can get their mail delivered the next day."
Damn, this can't be good
