Members of Chicago's Catholic community, who are also gay, are planning a protest against Cardinal Francis George this coming Sunday. The Cardinal has been under fire for drawing a comparison between gay rights activists and the Ku Klux Klan in a December 21 interview with Fox Chicago News when discussing the route for the gay pride parade, which would have passed by a Catholic church during Mass.
"You don’t want the Gay Liberation Movement to morph into something like the Ku Klux Klan, demonstrating in the streets against Catholicism," the Cardinal said in the controversial interview with Fox Chicago News. Since the comment was made, the Cardinal has been facing calls for his resignation.
This weekend's protest, which is being coordinated by Rainbow Sash, Equality Illinois, and the Gay Liberation Network, will take place at noon on Sunday in front of Holy Name Cathedral.
