Unemployment Rate Falls To Near Three-Year Low
New numbers from the Labor Department show that the nation's unemployment rate has fallen to 8.5 percent, reaching the lowest level since February 2009. The economy picked up 200,000 jobs in December, which is more than the 150,000 estimated by economists and the highest gain in three months.
Estimates for November were revised to show that 8,000 fewer jobs were created than originally reported.

The good news is; the unemployment rate is falling.
The bad news is; many of these jobs people are now forced to take still do not provide a living wage. Something is terribly wrong when millions of adults work 40 hours a week and still can qualify for food stamps and public aid. Something has to be done about bringing back the living wage.
This is once again, false hope and the numbers are WAY wrong! Please remember that the government does not project nor give the correct numbers when it comes to the unemployed, nor underemployed - I think we ALL know that. I am in poverty level and cannot understand their thinking.....

I saw an ad recently for my former position, it is now paying $4,000 a year less than I was paid. However, the job requirements have increased which includes level of experience and education. In addition, when I had the position benefits started immediately now they do not start until after six months.
Why be surprised? They are going to try to report the numbers as low as they can. Why? It is a election and Obama needs all the help he can get! Looks like Romney has the GOP almost a closed deal. Now the choice is the direction we want to see the country move toward. After 4 years of Obama and his big spending with no success I will vote Romney in 2012.
I hope nobody is so foolish to believe Obama is somehow responsible for the progressively falling unemployment rate. It’s only the American people & corporations working extremely hard to correct the economy in spite of his inactions and suffocating policies. For those who choose to believe Obama controls the unemployment rate for elections, ask yourself this question; why has he waited so long while millions suffer losing everything? AND, in this case, shouldn’t he be held accountable for the three and a half years of dragging his feet just to have the appearance of a recovering economy to help him win a second term?
In terms of reducing the defense budget, I have heard news reports that this will negatively impact job growth. It has already cost hundreds of jobs at several manufacturing companies that manufacture military equipment and planes.
Do you think this is the right time for the U. S. to reduce the defense budget? Are we adequately prepared to handle an attack?

When you look at the big picture, how sad is it that our government has to force people to do the right thing. What Bud Meyers fails to realize is that our very own government forces corporations to search for cheaper ways to turn a profit at any human cost. I just heard something both sad and funny about the recent cruise ship tragedy off the coast of Italy. Many parallels are being made as to how the passengers reacted in an emergency. What really busts our budget are the mind-boggling amounts we spend on our entitlement programs-- Medicare, Medicaid, workman’s compensation, food stamps, unemployment extensions, section 8 housing, free cell phones with free monthly minutes and countless other government give-a-ways many people don’t even realize exist.
These programs are wildly more expensive than any other budget items, and they're also growing like weeds.
Just like we all know how the BLS stats for the unemployment rate are inherently wrong, we also know that entitlement fraud is much, much, MUCH, higher than only 2%. IMO, this is what’s wrong and will bring our county to its knees. The sad part is that it can’t happen soon enough for some people.

Obmam delays budget! Last year Obama's proposed budget not only did not have cuts, but it would of added trillions more to our debt. It failed to pass in the Senate 97-0. Not one vote for it even from his own party. Both Paul Ryan's budget proposal and the GOP's cut cap and balance plan would have avoid a downgrade of our credit but the democrats refused to even vote on them. No budget has ever been passed by this administration--even with total control of the house and the senate it failed to pass a budget ever. Obama leadership you can not count on.

IMO, some of them fortunately found jobs. Some of them unfortunately gave up looking for work entirely. Some are surviving on savings & food stamps living with friends and family. Some joined the OWS movement and got lost or mistaken for nut jobs looking for free college tuition and debt forgiveness for life, etc.

They are still out there demanding more Govt hand outs. Maybe walking with the OWS people hoping the Govt will send more free checks or hanging out on their PC like msan222 asking for a Nanny state. The reality is the world moves on. I had said that we would see a small drop in unemployment in 2012 and more hiring and we are. In 2013 there will be more of a drop...maybe down to 7%. It will be a long time, if ever; that we in America will see a 4 or 5% rate. There will be those that save and invest for the future and make good choices. There will be some that save nothing, spend everything they make as fast as they make it and run up debt they can not pay back. That is just the reality of it. Those people will have nothing come retirement and will then spend their days blaming others and the Govt for all the bad choices they made in life. Nothing really new here. Life is not always fair. If the young can learn anything from this I hope they learn that choices you make today can be good or bad on your future. That you are responsible for your choices and your future. Plan, save and invest now for tomorrow. Buy what you need and can afford and avoid debt. One credit card is enough. Never have more money going out than you have coming in and save min. of 10% of everything you earn. Do that and you will have a future and a retirement you can count on. In late 2006, there were early signs of companies starting to cut back. Serious downsizing and massive lay-offs continued through 2007. In 2008 the Government finally admitted the country was in a recession.
By this time 15 to 25 million people were becoming unemployed or underemployed so the government added new Tiers. (Oh, I almost forgot), during all this time roughly 15 million people were sending in 5 each job search records every week. That’s 75 million different jobs every week that couldn’t possibly exist. Someone should make a movie about that farce. The millions wasted in paper, postage and administration floating around all these bogus job search records. (LOL).
Here we are in the year 2012, (four years later) and some people still believe this is a short-term survival argument asking for more tiers.

I would take the political alignment out of the argument, but if I look back through my life, it was generally the biggest meat-head on the playground that would trot out racial/social slurs to form a gang of kids, the loudest drunken idiot in the bar that would shout 'get that ||insert slur here|| out of my bar', the least effective manager (usually trying to preserve their own job) that would segregate labor by race / sex / etc... There are some solid points here, but the addition of political affiliation is unnecessary, enough to say that being tolerant is difficult, and requires effort and often research to eliminate one's own ignorance (most conflict is driven by ignorance of the other party), and those of 'low intelligence' may not realize this, or may have difficulties in trying to rectify it.

Yet, she admits to the world that she remains marginally employed and confused as to why she struggles to help the needy with as little as $5.00.

Arthur Spitzer, legal director of the ACLU in Washington, explained that "congressional committees routinely allow professional journalists to record hearings even when they don't have official press credentials, and excluding a journalist because he doesn't share the political views of the committee chair is outrageous. The Supreme Court has explained many times that censorship based on viewpoint is the clearest kind of First Amendment violation, and that seems to be what happened here."
