The Kenwood Oakland Community Organization ended their sit-in outside the mayor's office Monday, a protest launched because the Chicago Public Schools plans to close or turnaround 18 schools, including two in the community group's Bronzeville area. A staff member for Emanuel met with the community group Friday and scheduled a subsequent meeting for January 23. But Emanuel himself has not confronted Kenwood Oakland.
Kenwood Oakland organizer Jitu Brown tells the Tribune that the group also wants to meet with federal and state legislators. "We need a different authority to hold CPS accountable," Brown said.
