AFSCME-represented public employee union workers protested outside Gov. Pat Quinn's office Thursday, over public employee raises the governor withheld last year. Workers unsuccessfully tried to meet with the governor and present a "collection notice" that totaled the withheld raises of 30,000 public employees.
Quinn previously blamed the state legislature for not appropriating money for the raises. The protest came as Springfield is focused on cutting the state's pension deficit -- and there are proposals to reduce pension payments to current public employees.
