Today brought a bit of good news for cash-strapped Illinois public schools. A Mega Millions lottery that took nine weeks before there was a winner netted $31 million for Illinois public elementary and high schools. As WBBM Newsradio explains, the Illinois lottery denotes a portion of its earnings to the Common School Fund, and sometimes this can generate substantial money toward schools.
There were three winners in Friday's $656 million jackpot, and each will collect $219 million.
