Two Democratic challengers for Illinois Congressional seats, Cheri Bustos and Tammy Duckworth, claim strong fundraising totals for the 2nd quarter of this year, between April 1 and June 30. They are both going up against Tea Party candidates.
Bustos, who is facing U.S. Rep. Bobby Schilling (R-Rock Island) for the 17th District in Northwest Illinois, says she raised $100,000 more than Schilling during the 2nd quarter.
Duckworth, up against U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-McHenry) for the 8th Congressional District in the northwest Chicago suburbs, has raised at least $1 million. In fact, Duckworth's campaign says that she has raised more money than any other challenger for a House seat.
Both Bustos and Duckworth have strong shots at defeating their opponents thanks, in part, to Illinois' redrawn congressional districts.
