Gov. Pat Quinn visited striking Caterpillar workers in Joliet today and donated $10,000 to their food fund. Quinn's trip follows a visit earlier in the week from U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Illinois).
But the Joliet Herald News reports that all was not hunky dory between Quinn and the striking workers. Some on the picket line shouted out for Quinn to intervene in the labor dispute. Quinn kept telling striking workers, "You're the best" while declining to say if he sided with the workers over the company. One worker replied, "Cat used to tell us we're the best."
Workers have been on strike since May 1. As PI has noted, Caterpillar's hardball tactics come as the company has enjoyed record profits.
