Gov. Pat Quinn sent letters yesterday to the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Administration requesting an investigation into the safety practices of the company Megabus.com. The letters come after two fatal MegaBus accidents in Illinois over the past week.

Quinn's letter could mean serious scrutiny of MegaBus as the Obama administration has penalized other budget bus companies. The Transportation Department ordered 26 bus companies in New York City's Chinatown to shut down in May based on their failure to abide by safety regulations.
