A coalition of labor unions is set to protest Gov. Pat Quinn's appearance at the Illinois State Fair today in Springfield. The Bloomington Pantagraph reports that unions will specifically address the governor's record of public employee layoffs and his efforts to cut pension benefits for both current public workers and retirees.
The Democratic governor has been continually at odds with labor unions this year. AFSCME Council 31 sued the Quinn administration over the closing of state prisons. And the We Are One coalition of unions fiercely opposes the governor's proposed pension cuts. The group gave their own pension cost savings plan Monday, but the governor's office dismissed the proposal.
UNION NEEDS TO STOP UNLESS THEY REPRESENT EVERYONE EVEN THE FELONS AND THE FARMERS AND THE GAS STATION ATTENDANT. ETC. ETC. SOMETHING HAS GOT TO GIVE. I MAY NOT BE THAT EDUCATED ON GOVERNMENT HOWEVER I KNOW WHAT I SEE AND HEAR: THE UNION ONLY CARES ABOUT THEIR MEMBERS. OH WELL THE ONES THAT LOSE THEIR JOBS HAVE TO MAKE IT LIKE THE REST OF US REGULAR PEOPLE. WE ARE GOING THROUGH A DROUGHT. CITIZENS BEING LAID OFF EVERYWHERE. I COULD GO ON AND ON ABOUT THIS SITUATION. UNION=SELFISH,GREEDY! YOU ARE JUST GOING TO HAVE TO HURT LIKE THE REST OF US!!!!!!!!!!!IM NOT HAPPY WITH THE GOVERNOR EITHER. HE PLAYS BOTH SIDES TRYING TO KEEP ALL THE GREEDY PEOPLE HAPPY. I PRAY THE "OLD-BOY SCHOOL" CRAP STOPS.
THEN I READ THIS STATEMENT HERE IN THE "PROGRESS ILLINOIS" THAT HE IS GIVING AFSCME PAY HIKES. DISGUSTING. PLAIN DISGUSTING.
