The We Are One coalition of labor unions will hold a rally outside the capitol rotunda in Springfield today at noon to protest a one-day General Assembly "special session" scheduled to deal with proposed pension legislation. Coalition members say that currently proposed legislation unfairly cuts the retirement benefits of state workers who have reliably paid into the state's pension systems. The coalition proposed their own pension cost-savings plan Monday that would include increased contributions from current state workers, but Gov. Pat Quinn dismissed the idea.
Coalition members booed Quinn off the stage Wednesday at the Illinois State Fair.
