The Chicago Teachers Union may issue a ten-day strike notice but they will not do so today or tomorrow, which means that the remainder of Chicago Public Schools will open September 4 as scheduled. CTU President Karen Lewis told reporters this morning that the union would not issue a strike notice in the next 48 hours.
Lewis also said that she doubted Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's entrance into contract talks would help matters. The mayor's office indicated yesterday that Emanuel would get more directly involved.
