Occupy Chicago will hold a march and rally later today in observance of the one-year anniversary of the Occupy Wall Street movement and its subsequent offshoots.
"On September 17th, Occupy Chicago, and our allies in struggle, will celebrate the anniversary of Occupy Wall Street by honoring global austerity resistance," explains the Occupy Chicagoweb site. "As waves of austerity have crashed through this city, and countries throughout the the world, we've found heroes in the streets. They are teachers. They are mental health consumers. They are neighbors we had never met. We have stood alongside the vulnerable, the righteous, and the brave in our efforts to build a better world. Together, we have created a community."
The "anti-austerity" rally is set to start at 5:30 p.m. this evening at Congress St. and Michigan Ave. The march will begin at 6 p.m.
