Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced yesterday that his proposed 2013 budget will provide $4 million more to after-school and summer programs for at-risk teenagers. These programs currently receive about $9 million and serve an estimated 9,000 kids. The extra money would allow 4,000 additional youths to enroll.
Emanuel will soon roll out his complete budget, which last year included $6.2 billion in spending. The mayor has already announced that despite a projected $298 million deficit he will not increase taxes or fees.
