Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle might include a gun and ammunition tax in her proposed 2013 county budget, which is to roll out next week, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Kurt Summers, Preckwinkle's chief of staff, admitted that such a tax probably will not do much in closing a $115 million deficit. However, Summers told the newspaper that a guns and ammunition tax "is consistent with our commitment to pursuing violence reduction in the city and the county."
There is already a federal tax on guns and ammunition with the proceeds going to fund conservation projects.
