The Chicago Public Schools are rumored to close down anywhere from 60 to 120 neighborhood schools, as CPS siphons more money to charter schools. But the Chicago Tribune reports today that CPS may go a step further and have charter school networks go into existing neighborhood schools and simply replace teachers and staff.
CPS already has school turnarounds where teachers and staff at schools judged failing are replaced. But the replacement teachers are members of the Chicago Teachers Union. Most charter schools teachers don't have union representation and none are represented by CTU.
