Weeks after the Chicago Teachers Union suspended their strike, teachers at another suburban school district have initiated their own walkout. Teachers in North Shore School District 112, which includes Highland Park, announced early this morning that they were going on strike today, effectively canceling classes in the district. Among other issues, teachers say that salaries in the school board's proposed contract are less than those of other Lake County school districts.
On Friday, teachers in the northwest suburb of Crystal Lake went on strike, while educators in Evergreen Park ended their almost two week work stoppage. Lake Forest High School teachers, meanwhile, have ratified their new contract after a strike last month.
