Democratic challenger Tammy Duckworth raised $1.5 million, or nearly six times as much money as U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-McHenry), between June and September in their very close race for Illinois' 8th congressional district representative. However, Walsh may benefit handsomely from the Missouri-based Now or Never Super Political Action Committee, which already has spent $2 million to help the incumbent. Now or Never Super PAC plans to spend $2.5 million more on the race, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Unlike normal Political Action Committees, Super PAC's may spend as much money as they wish so long as they do not directly coordinate with campaigns. Walsh has told the Sun-Times that he does not know who the principal donors are behind the Now or Never Super PAC, whose cash influx has coincided with the lawmaker's rise in some polls.
