U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert (R-Hinsdale) and Democratic challenger Bill Foster of Naperville debated last night on several issues that have cropped out of their tight 11th congressional district race. One notable moment during the debate occured when Biggert, who describes herself as a social moderate, said she was on her way to supporting gay marriage, but for now just supported civil unions for same-sex couples. Foster responded that he unequivocally supports gay marriage.
Biggert also expressed sympathy for undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. when they were children. But Foster dinged her for voting against The Dream Act, a filibustered piece of legislation that would have provided young undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship.
