The We Are One Coalition has invited Gov. Pat Quinn and four lawmakers to a summit to discuss potential solutions to the state's underfunded pension system. The invitation follows the group's call for such a meeting after the lame duck session ended without the passage of pension reform legislation.
“We believe that these efforts have faltered in large part because they did not address the concerns of those most directly impacted — public sector employees and retirees,” AFL-CIO Michael Carrigan wrote in the letter to the lawmakers. “Moreover, in virtually every instance, the proposed legislation sought to place the entire cost of fixing the pension problem on those employees and retirees.”
The meeting is set to take plave on February 11 in Burr Ridge.
