Brady The Pioneer

During an interview on Fox Chicago this past weekend, GOP gubernatorial nominee Bill Brady said the following (watch the full video here):

"I'm the first legislator, I'm told, to run for governor in over 100 years."

Brady may be the only sitting legislator to become his party's nominee for governor in the last century.  But is that really noteworthy?  Before Quinn took office, the previous three governors all served in the General Assembly at some point.  Jim Edgar left the Illinois House in 1978 to work for then-Gov. Jim Thompson.  Several years later he became Secretary of State.  George Ryan spent 10 years in the House before moving to lieutenant governor.  And prior to his election to Congress in 1996, Rod Blagojevich served in the House for 14 years.
