Check out this Washington Times article on the Illinois Senate race by reporter Joseph Curl. In it, he quotes Illinois Republican Party chairman Pat Brady saying that the GOP will try to link Democratic candidates "directly to President Obama's policies, which are not popular here." As evidence, Curl cites a March Rasmussen poll which found that only 38 percent of Illinoisans approve of President Obama's "handling of health care reform." At the very end of the piece, he includes some additional data from the survey:
What's more, Illinois voters, by a 52 percent to 39 percent margin, oppose the massive health care reform bill in its current form, preferring Congress pass smaller bills that address individual problems in a step-by-step approach.
While the poll respondents did express a preference for a "step-by-step approach," they certainly didn't "oppose the ... bill in its current form," as Curl claims. To the contrary, when asked if they favor the "health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and the congressional Democrats," 53 percent supported it.
