States are still learning of the ramifications of the "the largest annual
spending cut in history," also known as the compromise between Congressional Republicans and the White House. But one area sure to take a big hit: high-speed rail. With funding reduced, the Chicago-to-St. Louis project could suffer, and the possibility of a Chicago-to-New York City route may now just be a
dream.
Funding was completely zeroed out for this year (despite
President Obama’s request of $1 billion), leaving states with just $2 billion left to choose from. That funding is from FY 2010, though it too has been cut back. The budget for FY 2010 appropriated $2.5 billion for High-Speed Intercity Passenger,
according to a Talking Points Memo report but $400 million of that was rescinded as part of the recent budget deal.
This is a blow to Obama, who made high-speed
rail one of his signature transportation goals. But its also a major setback for states like Illinois, which is one of the 24 states to have requested funding
that now totals more than $10 billion. Illinois alone has applied for $1
billion, including $248.5 million for advancement of the Chicago-St.
Louis project. With only $2 billion available, funding for many of these projects are now in question.
This is a good opportunity to abandon this senseless project.
The time saved will be very small and the high-speed rail will not attract many riders. Remember: the federal government will only supply PART of the funding, the state will need to spend more money on something we don't need.
If this is so attractive why isn't private investment being made in the project? They could make a profit and we could tax them.

Hey Bob, how much "private investment" was made into our National Highway System that provides many retailers with a rapid way to move products? How much private investment was made into what became the Internet in the early 80s? How much did private investors invest in Nuclear Energy in the 1950s? If you said "none" you would be correct. Private Investors won't invest in anything that will benefit the people of this country as a whole, never have, never will - at least until it has become proven technology and then they'll try to privatize it (like they're trying to do to the Internet). As a supposed union member (from many of your comments I really doubt you are) these projects will be a boon to your union.
As oil prices continue to climb (they won't be going down as we have now reached peak oil) air and passenger car travel will become more expensive, and High Speed Rail will attract more riders. I find it interesting that while no one who criticizes passenger rail service for not producing enough profit to run without government assistance ignores the fact that our highway system is completely dependent on tax revenue to support it - it makes no profit whatsoever.
I will get to know more new information. Even the website layouts and the designs impress me a lot.

More drastic and seemingly hurtful spending cuts will be on the way to augment the trillion-worth of debt by the government. Criteria for prioritizing should be re-evaluated.
Keep up the great work, its hard to find good ones. http://sinergibisnis.com/ have added to my favorites. Thank You. http://jasaseomurah.om-onny.com/ and http://www.om-onny.com/. I will often visit here. http://pasangiklanbaris.om-onny.com/
Not only Illinois.I've found a giant hole in budget while attending www.essay-service.org/ . Don't know what to do with this.
That agency accelerated abuse projects are still allotted $2.5 billion, as in 2010, even admitting President Barack Obama had asked for $1 billion for the affairs in the 2011 budgetary year catastrophe Sept. 30. In the 2011 account agreed to April 8, the high- acceleration abuse affairs will accept $1 billion, $1.5 billion beneath than in budgetary 2010.
