The Chicago Transit Authority will begin servicing the Pullman Walmart, set to open Wednesday, following political pressure from city hall.

By not having bus service to the Pullman Walmart up and running, the transit agency was failing to follow through on a promise to have the service ready by the store's opening, according to Ald. Anthony Beale (9th). But CTA officials say the fault lies with the developer, not the transit authority.

“We were running as fast as we could, but we didn’t quite make it. The developer is the culprit,” a CTA source told the Chicago Sun-Times.

“If we’d gotten the required notice, this would have been a piece of cake,” the source continued. “Instead, we’ll start bus service [Wednesday] and work with the developer to get the information we should have gotten months ago about store traffic, how it’ll build over time and what the residential population is likely to be so we can develop a long-term plan that makes sense.”

Bus service to the store begins tomorrow and will be considered temporary until a permanent plan is devised. 

Beale, who had been fighting for bus service to be up and running by the store's opening voiced his pleasure with the temporary plan, thanking the transit agency at the store's ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier today. 

“I want to thank CTA for providing bus service first thing tomorrow,” said Beale, who is also chairman of the Chicago City Council's transportation committee.
