Durkin Starts Role As Illinois House GOP Leader

State Rep. Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) officially began work as the Illinois GOP House leader Monday.

Former Illinois House Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego), who held the leadership position for 10 years, stepped down to run for state treasurer.

Durkin served in the Illinois House from 1995 to 2002, until he ran for U.S. Senate against Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL). In 2006, Durkin was re-elected to the state House to represent the 82nd District.
