Venture capitalist and GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner has named his pick for lieutenant governor, Evelyn Sanguinetti.
Introducing her as "a daughter of immigrants," Rauner said Sanguinetti has "achieved the American Dream and understands firsthand how the career politicians are destroying this state and eliminating opportunities for future generations" in an email naming his running mate.
Here's a video Rauner's campaign has released in announcing the decision:
Sanguinetti is an attorney and Wheaton City Councilwoman. She previously worked as an assistant attorney general under former Gov. Jim Ryan.
"I'm proof that with hard work, a good education and an opportunity anyone from anywhere can make it," Sanguinetti, who is of Cuban and Ecuadorian descent and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis prior to running for her current city council seat, said in a statement.
