An alderman from Murphysboro is accused of attempting to make an escape from jail after being imprisoned on charges of kidnapping, sexual abuse and unlawful restraint.
Ronald Nolan, 46, is now also charged with attempted escape, aggravated battery and resisting a peace officer as a result of his attempt to break free from jail last month. He allegedly broke a guard's finger and kicked another one in the genitals during his attempted escape.
Nolan was arrested for riding around Jackson and Union counties in a vehicle with a 20 year-old woman against her will in September and is being held on $100,000 bond.
Nolan was elected to a four-year term on the Murphysboro City Council back in April. There are no attempts to remove Nolan from the City Council while his trial is pending.
