State Treasurer and GOP gubernatorial candidate Dan Rutherford will not release the findings made by an independent investigator who looked into the sexual harassment allegations made against him by a former employee.
Rutherford's camp say they are not releasing the report due to the federal lawsuit filed against him by the former employee earlier this week.
“There is a federal lawsuit that has been filed — under federal rules, we are not supposed to be talking to the whole world about the case — we are supposed to be talking about it in the courtroom,” said Peter Andjelkovich, a private attorney who reviewed the lawsuit against Rutherford told the Chicago Sun-Times.
The report, which was paid for by taxpayer dollars to the tune of $250 an hour, will only be made public by the court said Rutherford's spokesperson Mary Frances Bragiel.
Andjelkovich says the lawsuit has no legs and finds the timing to be "suspect" considering Rutherford's candidacy in the upcoming primary election.
“That seems to be quite suspect. With all do respect … that is suspect. This lawsuit could have been filed six months ago or six months from now,” the attorney told the newspaper.
Rutherford has gone on the record saying he believes opponent Bruce Rauner is behind the allegations due to his having used the former employee's attorney for basic legal work for his campaign, an office lease review, in the past.
