College of DuPage President Robert Breuder may be placed on a leave of absence by Thursday, according to reports.
Trustee Kathy Hamilton and three colleagues, who were elected to the board earlier this month, sent Breuder a letter calling for a special meeting to be held Thursday after the scheduled organizational meeting. The agenda for the extra meeting includes a plan to place Breuder on paid administrative leave and put Executive Vice President Joseph Collins in his place as interim president. The trustees also want to form an ad hoc committee tasked to work on searching for an interim president.
The agenda for the special meeting also includes proposed plans to authorize an internal investigation and the hiring of additional legal counsel, a temporary hold on all entertainment and travel reimbursements for trustees as well as all house accounts for the Waterleaf Restaurant.
Federal and DuPage County prosecutors as well as Illinois education officials have recently launched investigations into spending and other problems at the College of DuPage.
