State Sen. Michael Connelly (R-Lisle) was officially selected Monday to manage Illinois-based campaign operations for Republican presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio.
"Washington will stay broken if both parties continue to elect the same people who are trying to make 20th-century ideas work in the 21st century. That's why I'm supporting Marco Rubio," Connelly said in a statement.
He added that the U.S. senator from Florida is "an inspirational leader who will bring our country together."
Connelly has been working on the recruitment of Rubio delegates in the state.
On Thursday, presidential campaigns can begin their circulation of delegate petitions and collection of signatures to get on the Illinois ballot.
