Eight medical marijuana dispensaries are set to open in Illinois Monday.
Some 3,300 patients in Illinois have been approved for the state's medical marijuana pilot program, which is currently scheduled to run for four years and come to an end in January 2018.
Starting Monday, qualified patients can for the first time purchase medical marijuana at the eight dispensaries, opening in Marion, Mundelein, Canton, Quincy, Addison, North Aurora, Schaumburg and Ottawa.
Illinois' medical marijuana pilot program covers patients with specific debilitating medical conditions, such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and HIV/AIDS.
The state could see 25 medical marijuana dispensaries open before next year.
