The budget meeting that was supposed to occur Wednesday between Gov. Bruce Rauner and the state's four legislative leaders has been delayed.
The governor's office pushed the meeting back to December 1. It did so following news that House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) could not be at the budget meeting because he needed to attend the funeral of a family member who died last week.
A Rauner spokesman said the meeting was postponed "out of respect for the speaker's family obligations and to help facilitate the attendance of all."
Illinois has been without a budget since July 1, the start of the 2016 fiscal year. Rauner and Democratic lawmakers continue to be at odds over a new state spending plan.
Rauner and the four state legislative leaders have not met since May.
