The Working Families Party has endorsed U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in the Democratic presidential primary.
"We're standing with Bernie Sanders because he's calling for a political revolution and that's exactly what we need in Chicago," said Katelyn Johnson, executive director of Action Now and an executive board member of United Working Families, the latter of which is the local partner of the Working Families Party, a progressive organization that pushes policies geared towards helping the 99%.
"In fact, it's already started," Johnson added. "People are rising up because we will no longer be silent in the face of injustice, corruption or cover-ups. We stand ready to transform Chicago into the city we deserve: a city that puts the needs of the people ahead of the privileges of the powerful."
According to an announcement on the endorsement, more than 87 percent of Working Families Party members voted in favor of Sanders, compared to 11.5 percent former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and 1.1 percent for former Gov. Martin O'Malley.
