Eight Chicago Public Schools teachers who were fired after becoming pregnant will receive a settlement totaling $280,000 from the school district.
Details of the settlement, which includes damages and back pay, came Wednesday.
The settlement stems from a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Education Department on behalf of eight pregnant teachers at Scammon Elementary School on the North Side who were fired between 2009 and 2012.
The settlement, in which CPS does not admit to any wrongdoing, requires the district to tweak policies and procedures on discrimination and complaint reporting.
