A bill that would provide Illinois human services agencies with $450 million in emergency funding unanimously passed the Senate Friday.

The measure now goes to the House. The lower chamber is currently adjourned and won't reconvene until May 3.

The proposal, introduced by Sen. Heather Steans (D-Chicago), would get its funding from the state's human services commitment account.  A range of agencies and programs that have been hard hit by the budget impasse, such as those serving seniors and people who are homeless or have addictions, would see funding under the proposal. Some money would also go toward higher education. 

State lawmakers in both chambers approved another plan to free up $600 million in short-term funding for higher education.
