The White House has been place on lockdown following reports of a shooting near the area.
The shooting reportedly occurred on West Executive Drive. The Washington Post reports that one person was shot and wounded and has been transported to the hospital. The person is reportedly in critical condition, according to authorities.
President Barack Obama was not on the White House property during the incident, according to reports.

UPDATE (4:20 p.m.): The White House lockdown was lifted at about 4 p.m. local time, CNN reports. A man was reportedly shot in the abdomen by Secret Service near the White House after he displayed a gun and refused orders to drop it. The man is reportedly in law enforcement's custody.
"No one within or associated with the White House was injured, and everyone in the White House is safe and accounted for," a source at the White House told the news organization. "The President has been made aware of the situation."
