Leaders in certain Cook County municipalities are unimpressed with the passage of an ordinance requiring a $13 minimum wage.
Officials in Barrington, Elk Grove Village, and Prospect Heights are looking at various ways to sidestep the ordinance, including opting out using home-rule powers as well as passing legislation that usurps the county ordinance.
Cook County Commissioners passed the minimum wage ordinance Wednesday by a 13-3 vote. Under the law, which will begin taking effect next July, the hourly minimum wage will gradually increase from $8.25 to $13 by 2020.
